Construction of JAMALCO‘s US$189 million gas-fired co-generation power plant by New Fortress Energy is on track for completion by February 2020. Austin Mooney, Managing Director of JAMALCO, says construction of the offshore gas pipeline has been completed and work on the inland segment is underway. New Fortress Energy has started to ship the gas pipe from the United States and has already received some of the large stacks. The steam generators and the combustion turbines are expected in Kingston this month. Richard Russell, JAMALCO‘s Director of Operations, says the new power plant will serve two purposes – it will supply 90 to 100 megawatts of power into the national grid and also provide JAMALCO with 120 thousand pounds of steam, which is about 40 per cent of its demand. The upgrade will help JAMALCO to become a more efficient refinery.
